Chicago property tax appeal windows open in November 2026

Information checked October 31, 2026. Deadlines can change; confirm the date on the agency’s own site before you file. This post is general information, not legal or tax advice.

As of October 31, 2026, four City of Chicago townships have a property tax appeal window open: West Chicago at the Cook County Board of Review until November 6, 2026, and Jefferson (until November 12), North Chicago (until November 24) and South Chicago (until December 15, 2026) at the Cook County Assessor’s Office.

Cook County property owners can appeal an assessment in two places, at different times: first the Assessor’s Office, then the Board of Review. Each township gets its own window at each agency. This post lists the windows open now for the townships inside the city.

Two agencies, two windows

  • Assessor’s Office. The Assessor’s calendar gives each township a “last file date”; in its words, an owner “has until the date listed under ‘last file date’ to file an appeal.” The calendar also says owners “are allowed to file an appeal with the Assessor’s Office and at the Board of Review.” (Checked .)
  • Board of Review. The Board of Review opens townships in groups. In 2026, Group 3 (Lyons, Northfield, Stickney and West Chicago) opened October 8 and closes November 6, with evidence due November 16. It takes appeals online through its appeals portal, or on a complaint form delivered or mailed to the Board. (Board of Review, Residential Appeals, checked .)

Is 2026 a reassessment year for Chicago?

No. The Assessor’s Office says: “This year, in 2026, the south and west suburbs of Cook County is scheduled to be reassessed.” Its list of past reassessments places the City of Chicago townships, including West Chicago, Jefferson, North Chicago and South Chicago, under “2024 City of Chicago.” As the table above shows, Chicago townships still have 2026 assessment notices and appeal windows. (Cook County Assessor, Valuation Reports, checked .)

What this post does not cover

Whether an appeal makes sense for a particular property, any filing fee, and which year’s tax bill a 2026 appeal affects. The agency pages we checked do not state the last two; ask the Assessor’s Office or the Board of Review directly.
